Introduction to Navan
Navan is a travel management platform used by organizations to book and manage business trips. The Safeture integration connects to Navan to bring relevant itinerary information into Safeture, helping organizations keep traveler locations, trip details, and travel-risk workflows up to date without manual imports.
The integration transfers available Navan itinerary data into Safeture’s travel data model, including:
-
Flights
-
Hotels
-
Rail journeys
-
Car rentals
-
Traveler and booking details
-
Updates and cancellations to existing trips
On the initial synchronization, Safeture imports available bookings for trips that have not yet concluded. Later synchronizations process changes made since the previous poll.
How synchronization works
Safeture connects to Navan using the customer’s API credentials.
-
During the initial synchronization, existing bookings for upcoming trips are imported into Safeture.
-
The integration then polls Navan at approximately 10-minute intervals.
-
New and modified bookings are retrieved and mapped to Safeture travel records.
-
Canceled bookings are updated in Safeture.
-
Traveler and itinerary data becomes available for relevant Safeture features and workflows.
Synchronization timing can vary slightly depending on API availability, processing time, and the volume of booking changes.
Traveler matching
Safeture matches traveler data from Navan with existing user profiles in Safeture. For reliable matching, the same traveler information should be used across both systems.
Email address is the primary method for matching travelers. If an email address cannot be used, other available identity information may be used as a fallback.
Navan booking data does not include traveler phone numbers. If phone numbers are needed in Safeture, they need to be provided through another source, such as an HR integration, Azure AD, or the Safeture Employee API.
Once travelers are matched, synchronized bookings are connected to the corresponding Safeture user profiles and updated as changes are received from Navan.
Prerequisites
Before setup begins, the customer must provide valid Navan API credentials and confirm that the required booking data is available through the Navan account.
The following prerequisites should be confirmed before configuration can proceed:
-
Navan administrator access
-
Client ID
-
Secret key or API token, as applicable to the Navan configuration
-
Customer account identifier for the Safeture integration setup
-
A reliable traveler identifier, preferably the traveler’s work email address
Protect credentials: Be cautious when sharing API secrets or other sensitive credentials. Make sure they are only shared with the intended recipient and avoid exposing them unnecessarily.
Customer setup guide
1. Generate Navan credentials
A user with the required administrator permissions in your organization generates the API credentials in Navan. Share these credentials with Safeture.
2. Share the required account details
Provide Safeture with the customer account identifier and any details requested during onboarding so the Navan integration can be connected to the correct Safeture account.
3. Safeture configures the integration
Safeture configures the integration using the credentials and account details shared through the approved secure process.
4. Validate the first synchronization
After setup is complete, verify that the integration can authenticate with Navan and that expected upcoming trips appear in Safeture. Confirm that traveler matching and itinerary details are correct.
